Yesterday, we had a deviation from the normal routine. We attended Mr. OverKill’s parent’s church. They were having a couple of guests speakers that we really wanted to hear. The first was a missionary to China, and the second is a pastor in Scotland who has been helping with church plantings in the Ukraine. Both were excellent speakers, and I know that our being there was a divine appointment.
Here is one of the many thoughts that stuck in my head about yesterday.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
Here was the main idea from this verse. The speaker said, Jesus didn’t come down and hover on a cloud tossing tracks down to the lowly sinners here on Earth. He became flesh and dwelt among us. Still living a perfect life, but He was among us, as a result we have seen His glory.
I think we can all agree that we are striving to be more like Christ. In doing so, are we getting out there in the sea of humanity and “dwelling” among the unsaved. Or do we isolate ourselves, in a tight circle of “Christian Only” friends? Trust me, I’m not saying we shouldn’t have a close circle of Christian friends, but do we have friends that aren’t Christians? Are we striving to make a difference in their lives? After all, they are just like we used to be, before Christ came and dwelt among us.
Believe it or not, I am not an extremely outgoing social person. After almost 3 years at our church, I am just now getting to where I have close friends there. So, my circle of friends is very small, that’s just my personality. Yes, I do have unsaved friends, and yes I try to shine the love of God into their lives every chance I get, but could I be doing more? There is one person in particular that is heavy on my heart right now, that I know I needed to work harder at befriending. Even in general though, are there those who I could impact differently? Kind words spoken to the checkout lady at Publix? Or maybe the bag boy? I see them once a week, why not try to be a friend to them?
So, think about it? Are you tossing tracks off a cloud, or are you rubbing elbows with a needy world?
This is what everyone needs to read…..I thought it was really good and I am going to think about it everyday Am I tossing tracks off a cloud or am I rubbing elbows with a needy world? to answer that I am really not sure.
