Today was the first day of public school in our county. As is our tradition, we had a day of fun to commemorate, not going back to school :)
We took the kids to Michaels and told them that, within reason, they could choose any craft they would like to do for our “Day of Fun.” The boys chose model cars and the girls chose paint by number kits.
I suggested that we should start the day off by sleeping in. Well, we tried. But I think we are just too much in the habit of getting up.
Of course, the boys got right to work, even before breakfast was ready!
I’d smile like that too if I had a 1957 Corvette…a real one, you know.
Little Man built a 1969 Charger, not too shabby either.
Later, when breakfast was finally ready, the girls opted to eat in the new tent that Tootle made.
Aren’t they cute?
After breakfast, the boys finished their models and the girls worked on their painting. Then we hit the road for a bike ride.
Lunch was had at the kiddos favorite restaurant, and of course we had to go to Dairy Queen for dessert.
The giant slip n slide got quite the workout in the afternoon followed by more painting. Since the boys had finished their model cars already, Bubba decided to tackle the blank board game and make his own version of Monopoly.
At which point Little Man decided to make his own version as well…
The girls each finished one of their paintings…
Sugar Belle
Tootle Bug
Tootle decided to just “do her own thing.” When she saw how nicely Shug’s turned out, she decided she had better follow the paint by numbers on the next one.
All in all a great, fun, relaxing day celebrating the joy of homeschool!
How was your “first” day?
