A couple years ago I was whining complaining confessing, that I was a little jealous of all the back to school postings on Facebook. Last year, I decided that we would celebrate not going to school on the first day of public school, by taking the day off.
This year, I took it a step forward and we had an all out “Happy Not First Day of School” party day. We kicked off with a special breakfast of waffles. The kiddos had their choice, chocolate swirl…
or strawberries and cool whip.
Then, we decided to test out our newest frugal/frazzled contraption, a giant-sized slip and slide. Oh yeah….
Sugar Belle broke out the tubes and they cranked the fun up another notch.
Bubba decided that they should pull each other on the tubes….but it didn’t work out so well.
Inevitably, there were races and showers with the fire hose.
After we finished playing on the slip and slide, Mr. OverKill took the kiddos and I out to lunch at the kiddos favorite restaurant. When we got home from lunch, we lazed around and watched movies. When it finally cooled off, the kiddos hit the slide again, and had ice pops on the back porch.
It was an AWESOME NOT first day of school!!!!!
If you homeschool, do you do anything special on your local public school’s first day?
If your kiddos go to public school, do you have any special first day traditions?
