Remember last week I mentioned that it was time to started prepping your garden for planting in Florida?
I mentioned that I was trying a new method of prepping the garden, by draping a large piece of plastic (aka our slip in slide) over the garden. Doing this increases the heat in the garden and kills off the weeds and many pests.
I was very pleased with the result…
I was able to get these weeds out and the dirt turned in about half the time, with no chemicals!!! Love it!
I have a loose plan for the garden this year. As you can see in the above picture, I still have some things going in the first garden row. I have several sweet potato plants, which I have never grown before…but seem to be doing very well. I also have a few different herbs and some chives that lasted through the summer.
I the last row (which is covered in the plastic right now) I will most likely grow all green beans. In the center row, I’m thinking tomatoes, peppers, and a cauliflower or two. In the remainder of the first row I will plant broccoli.
If I had my druthers, I would put up a new garden row quickly to enable me to grow more…but I’m not sure Mr. OverKill would be on board for that.
Would you honey? Blink blink…. ;)
In all seriousness, I am so thankful that we are able to get fresh fruits and veggies all year round, and that part of that time I am able to grow my own produce.
Are you growing anything this year? I’d love to hear about it!
