I remembered what I wanted to say…it only took 24 hours. :)
This past week many of my friends and acquaintances sent their children off to school. Which is fine, that is their choice, just like homeschooling is my choice.
But, then the comments started rolling in…. “Going to have lunch with my girlfriends to celebrate the end of summer,” or “Sat on the couch all day and caught up on my DVR-ed shows,” or “Look at all these cute pictures of my kid on their first day of fill in the blank. Aren’t they cute with their backpack and their new lunchbox?”
And I was jealous! Yes I was! I’m keeping it real, I’ll be honest!
I am with my kids all day long. I don’t have cute first day of school pictures (which I recognize is my own fault, I could have done it), lunch boxes, and new clothes….
I was also starting to bemoan the fact that financially things are tight for us right now. And I recognize that if I were working, things would not be so tight, and we could go out to eat at fancy places and take fabulous vacations…and.
At which point, I prayed and asked the Lord to help me out with these emotions. This is what I got…
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Matthew 6:19-21
And then I remembered that I am laying up my treasures in heaven. I am not killing myself at a “job”, for earthly treasures. I am, however, working my patookie off for what I believe will be treasures in heaven.
It’s just so hard to remember sometime….
AMEN!!!
So, I’m not the only one???? Yes!
I’m jealous of YOU! I want to home school, but financially we can’t make it work (too many medical bills and such.)
It can definitely be a financial struggle, especially if you are use to 2 incomes. But I would encourage you, if it is the Lord’s will for you to homeschool, He will provide a way for you! Homeschooling itself doesn’t have to be very expensive, but those other pesky bills can definitely put a damper on things. We have a nice stack of medical bills right now from my recent trip to the ER. They are going to have to be patient is all I can say!
Amen! : )
loved your post! “laying up treasures” is actually the name of my homeschool blog
