Are you ready for the challenge? This week we are going to de-clutter our kitchens. That’s always the best place to start!
Now, I know you might be thinking, big whoop. De-cluttering? I can do that in my sleep. Oh no, no, no, my friends, we are going to to de-clutter every nook and cranny of our kitchen. I created a printable checklist to help you get started with your de-cluttering.(I love lists!) I have also given you a few extra spaces to add your own items.
Now, I’m not going to insult your intelligence and go item-by-item down the list. Didn’t you hate it when teachers did that in school? The worst were college professors. Any who….
Here’s the skinny. For each item, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself.
1. Have you used it in the last year?
2. Is it in good working order?
3. Does it have all it’s pieces?
4. Do you have room to keep it?
5. Do I really need two of these? (For items you have multiples of:)
If you answer no to any of these questions, the item needs to go, but only after you ask yourself one more question:
Does it have sentimental value? That can be a deal breaker. You have to make the call on that one for yourself.
Now, of course some things can be repurposed. Old dishtowels can be transitioned into rags, and storage containers without a matching lid can be used to organize small items. However, try to be realistic about what you keep. The goal is to get rid of the junk from your kitchen.
One last part of your assignment, take before and after pictures. You will be amazed at the difference, I promise! When I forget to take a before picture, I kick myself. It’s rewarding to see how great your kitchen shelves and cabinets look when you are finished. If you are really brave, post them in our Flickr Group so we can all see how great you’re doing.
Remember, you have 1 week to complete this assignment. If you are a super busy lady, you might want to break your kitchen down into a few different areas and work on the list bit-by-bit(which is my plan). If you have a huge chunk of time, do it all at once. Everyone’s schedule is different. I would strongly encourage you to make a plan today as to how you are going to execute this week’s challenge.
My Plan
This week, my plan is to tackle at least 2 areas on the checklist per day. We don’t have a super busy schedule this week, but I want to really spend time going through my stuff this year and rid-out as much as I can.
What’s your plan?
