Don’t you love it when you see your children mimicking the kind, loving things that you do? For example, a few weeks ago Sugar Belle heard that one of our neighbors wasn’t feeling very well. She made a card for the neighbor and wanted to make her some cookies (not the best idea for that particular neighbor, but a sweet gesture none the less). It is so encouraging to see the children be loving, kind, and thoughtful without being prompted.
However, there is a very ugly flip side to this coin. Sigh…they mimic our short-comings, our sin. You see, one of my kiddos has been struggling with being unkind with their words. I was trying so hard to figure out why… Then, a few days ago it occurred to me, that his tone of voice sounded eerily familiar…like… my own… sigh…
I was very convicted this morning that I have not been allowing the law of kindness to be on my lips. You all know that there are days I want to push the Proverbs 31 woman down a well. Today was one of them….that familiar feeling of falling short. I thank the Lord for them though, because they sure do keep me humble.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
Proverbs 31:26
I have NOT had the law of kindness on my tongue, especially with my kiddos. It has nothing to do with them, and everything to do with me.
Yes, sometimes I must be stern with my children. But today, my prayer is that I would be mindful to have the law of kindness on my tongue. And that the little mirrors of me running around my home would reflect it.
SO true! But, where did that curly headed little girl go?
