This past weekend, Mom, My Stubborn Nefew’s Mother, and I went to Miami to surprise our good friend Mo for her birthday. We had a great time, I don’t think I have laughed that hard in a long time.
Sadly, I forgot to bring my camera, but I know there are some pics of the party lurking somewhere. I did however, have my trusty smart phone, with camera ;)
We arrived on Saturday afternoon, and made a bee line for our “old favorite” mall. Wait…have I mentioned that I grew up in Homestead…which(at the time) required some dependence on Miami for things like good malls, good food, and higher education. Back to my point….we made a bee line for our favorite mall because I needed some new makeup and wanted to try out Bare Minerals. But, I wanted to be able to try the colors before I bought. The jury is still out on whether or not I like the make up.
On our way to the mall, we passed Florida International University, where I got my undergraduate degree. Boy has it changed!
Some things haven’t changed though, like the up ramp at Dadeland Mall…
This was one of my sis and I’s favorite part of going to the mall as children.
Our favorite thing was the down ramp….
It’s a curly q. And lots of fun :) Some things never change…
On Sunday we had the luxury of sleeping in, then lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, PF Chang’s. Nice. Then we walked around another favorite mall, The Falls. We saw some really amazing things there, like….a pay phone!
And a cat waiting to get into the the Brighton store….
And oh my word, could I get in some serious trouble at Williams-Sonoma?
Yes I could!
I’ve been looking for a new set of dishes, that are not made in China. Can I just tell you how hard that is? I am a tad picky too, which doesn’t help. These were gorgeous, but a tad our of my price range. Ok, like way out of my price range, but man were they cool.
And the soup bowls. Oh!!!
Never have I seen such a pretty display of dish towels!
These measuring cups were SO cool. Check this out….
I know! But, check out the price….
I could have bought 2 of those fancy plates for that!
Rice bowls! Totally impractical, but oh so cute!
And this strainer, love it!
And this is a double steamer, which could also be used to cook pasta. Nice….
Mom, Sis and I had a great time. We laughed until we cried, we visited with our “old” friend, and we even pranked Dad. But the fun was a tad tainted by the sadness going home can create.
It was sad to see how things have changed, and many not for the better. I wrote a note to myself on my smart phone ;) while we were visiting our hometown.
Going “back home” is fun, but then it becomes uncomfortable. There is a reason you left…it makes itself apparent.
I’ll have to see if I can get some of those pics….they are on Molly’s camera and it went back to TX with her!
