Whenever my family gets together, you can pretty much bank on something exciting happening. Whether it’s my brother being hit in the head (while riding a jet ski) with the wing of Dad’s Ultralight (Boys will be boys). Or my cousin crashing the same Ultralight and breaking his back, it’s always something.
Don’t know what an Ultralight is? This is one my Dad had when I was a kid….
Yeah, in the head…..
Moving on, this Christmas my kiddos were the source of “entertainment”, or the yearly heart attack, whichever you prefer.
It all started with Bubba. Mr. OverKill and my Dad had been riding the 4 wheelers with the kiddos all afternoon.
Yes, that’s my baby, driving a 3 wheeler, with Dad of course!
“Look honey, no hands!”
Actually he looks a little worried there, doesn’t he????
Back to my story. So, they had been riding 4 wheelers, and Bubba’s little orange 4 wheeler started acting up. So, Mr. OverKill said, go ahead and drive it back to our trailer and don’t stop on your way there, just keep going and get it to the trailer. So, Bubba takes off, with Mr. Overkill and my Dad (aka Papa) following close behind. Well, as Bubba approaches the trailer, he doesn’t slow down, not at all. So Mr. OverKill is thinking, “Ok, I guess he’s going to go past it and then swing back around and park it…” Oh no, Bubba takes the 4 wheeler, full speed ahead up the ramp of the trailer and slams it into the front of the trailer. Mr. OverKill said his heart about stopped and his stomach jumped into his throat. He thought for sure that Bubba was going to go flying through the back window of the van. Thankfully, we pray often for the safety of our children (hey, in this family you have to!) and he only went flying over the top of the handle bars. He was totally fine, not even a bruise!
I was blessed not to watch any of it happen, as I was watching the other children ride the horses.
Isn’t that a nicer image? They were having a blast riding the ponies! And then it was time to put them up for the night. So, 2 of the bigger kids were on the horses, and Sugar Belle was on this pony….
and Little Man was on this pony.
Now, Little Man, being little and all, was being led by my uncle, the horse trainer, back to the horse stalls and the 3 others were a bit ahead of him. Well, the horses got antsy to get back to their pens and they started to gallop back to the pens. No biggy the big kids were fine and away they went. Well, then Sugar Belle’s pony decides not to be out done and she starts to trot, and then gallop and then (in Sugar Belle’s words) she started running! Now, Sugar Belle has some riding experience, but at this point my Uncle, Papa and Mr. OverKill are trying to figure out how the heck they are going to stop the run away pony. Mr. OK and Papa were still ON 4 wheelers you see, and that would have only made things worse. Then, Sugar Belle started to fall of the pony. Again, Mr. Overkill’s stomach paid a visit to this throat. But, that little horse-woman said “Mom, I took a deep breath and pulled myself back up on the horse and pulled the reins and told her to “WHOA!” and she did!” Again, I missed the excitment (Thank you Lord!).
I think the excitment was too much for Papa!
Tomorrow, Mr. Overkill and his brother, you don’t want to miss it!!!!
