Why is it that as soon as October 31st has past, all the Thanksgiving stuff goes on sale too?
Why is it that as soon as my neighbors take down their Halloween decorations, the Christmas decorations go up? (I’m not talking one neighbor, I’m talking 3 or 4!)
Last year we decided that we needed to take some kind of a stand for Thanksgiving. I truly believe one of the most important things we can do for our children is to teach them to be thankful! There are so many instructions in the Bible to “give thanks”, 39 times, if my count is right. One more reason I think giving thanks is important, the angels and elders in Heaven are going to give thanks, for all eternity. (Rev. 4:9 and Rev. 11:17) Wow! I think we need to be giving thanks!
So, our stand last year was, I made these pumpkins and put them in our front yard …
I put them back up this year too.
What was funny was to see the neighborhood kids’ reactions. One little boy can up to me and said, “I hate to tell you but Halloween was yesterday.” (He was 6 :)
So, I explained to him that these pumpkins weren’t for Halloween, they were for Thanksgiving. Then the kiddos helped him read the pumpkins and he was so unimpressed.
What was curious to me, was the adult neighbors’ responses. They all really liked the display. Even though it did clash with their early Christmas decorations.
So, over the next few days, I am going to be posting some ideas for celebrating Thanksgiving, and truly giving thanks.
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name. Psalms 18:49
Doesn’t scripture make you smile?
Oh, and sorry mom, for using :”ain’t” in my title.
I absolutely love it! I miss y’all so much! I’m stealing your idea! Maybe I’m really sheltered or it could be the era or area in which we live, but people do so take things for granted! Bekah
