So, yesterday I picked up my grandma and we headed out to my mom’s house to make some strawberry jam. Nothing beats the taste of homemade strawberry jam!
Of course, being The Frazzled Mama, I couldn’t do it the normal way. So, the whole “jam experience” started off with me realizing I had left my recipe book at home…45 minutes away. So, after about 30 minutes, of scratching my noggin and begging my brain cells to talk to each other, I got together what I thought was the recipe. Somewhere in the middle of that 30 minutes or so, I was out on the porch with Tootle Bug and she stepped of the porch and instantly started screaming bloody murder. I thought she had stepped in sand spurs and was frantically trying to find them on her feet. No dice. Did I mention I was on the phone with AwesoMom at the time, hoping that she had the recipe I needed? No? Okay, so Tootle is screaming, and I am trying desperately to fix her feet and STOP her screaming all the while trying to talk to AwesoMom. Finally in desperation I stick my head in the door and ask mom what the heck is up with her yard? Come to find out that they have some funky weed growing there, that if you step on it, it makes your feet feel like they are on fire. So, I hang up with AwesoMom (who didn’t have the recipe by the way) and take Tootle inside to rinse off her feet.
So, back to the jam. We got the first batch going, during which, out of the blue, I had a mild panic attack. Haven’t had one in a while, so it was kind of weird. Then, our boiling jam boiled over, and made a HUGE mess all over the stove. So that first batch definitely was labeled, Frazzled Mama Jam, or Panic Attack Jam, take your pick.
After we got the stove cleaned up, we started again and this time we got the girls involved.
They were a big help cutting the strawberries up.
My Grandma was helping this time around too. She doesn’t like to have her picture taken, can you tell?
But I finally got her laughing…
and eventually got a smile…
I think this is the most pictures I’ve ever taken of her with a smile on her face…
Once we got going…it went really well, and we all had a good time visiting and making what is quite possibly the best strawberry jam I have ever tasted!
Care to share? :) A taste? Glad it all worked out! :)
