My kiddos have had the same paint in their rooms since we moved into this house 5 years ago. It was time for something fresh and clean. So, I told them that if they wanted to get “fresh paint” they had to keep their room’s clean for 30 days. Eventually, we did get to the 30 day mark, although they were not 30 consecutive days. So the girls room was tackled first. This is what I came up with that I hope will last them another five years…
I am not in love with the curtains I have up in there right now. I thought they would look better. But once I hung the material up there, I realized I didn’t like it. But, then the girls broke their brand new miniblinds and I was not going to pay for another brand new set of miniblinds for them to rip down again. So I draped the material on the curtain rod….life happend…and it is still there 2 months later. Hmmm any suggestions?
The black paint is actually chalkboard paint. All 4 of the kiddos love the chalkboard.
It took me forever to find the bedding. I thought initially that I would make it and wanted something the had the black background with a white floral design. But I could not find any material like that. Then, one day I was at K-Mart and found these 2 sets on the clearance rack. I figured, close enough and now I don’t have to make them!
I found the hot pink pillows one day over in Tampa for 5 bucks. They add a certain something, don’t you think?
The boy’s room was actually a little harder. They are both all boy and Bubba had some big plans for his room. He wanted the one whole wall to be like a mural of a forest, with 3-d tree limbs coming out of the wall! I think he has seem one too many episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition! We came up with a pretty good compromise though…camo
Sorry, I know the picture isn’t that great, but they never are with this room, I think it’s the lighting. Anyway, They have this one full wall of camo, and the rest are the light mossy green that is in the background of the camo. They really like it. When I was starting this project, I was trying to figure out how to incorporate the camo, wallpaper, or maybe a border. I thought about painting it, but at first I was a little scared. I couldn’t find any “directions” or even any pictures to go by… and then I said, wait a minute, if a redneck can paint camo on a truck, surely I can paint camo on this wall. And so I did… I taped one of Bubba’s camo shirts on the wall next to me and then I just started copying the patterns, on a larger scale, see?
It was really simple and I think it really makes the room. Now, if only I could find the time to finish their curtains and comforters…
**Note: In our part of the country, redneck is not a derogatory term.
As a matter of fact, I am married to an official redneck :)
