I think I may have found my motivation for fitness! I really started thinking about baby steps to fitness, and then I did some research….and some soulsearch. Here’s what I came up with.
Mental Fitness. I believe it is important to know why you are going to try to become physically fit.
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Well, if that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is! Have you looked up the definition of defile lately? No? Well.. let me help you out :)
1. To make filthy or dirty; pollute: defile a river with sewage.
2. To debase the pureness or excellence of; corrupt:
3. To profane or sully
4. To make unclean or unfit for ceremonial use; desecrate: defile a temple.
5. To violate the chastity of.
Hmm… Well, that about covers it, from what goes in (pollute) to fitness. I can’t imagine a better motivation to be physically fit that to be ready for use!!!! Our body (temple) needs to be ready and able to be used of God when He needs us.
So, having your heart right will go a long way. I have been looking for this type of motivation for a while!
I hear ya!
A friend and I were having this conversation recently and she was saying ” It’s so important for you to do things you KNOW are healthy for you, God has given you a full plate and he knows that your body needs to be healthy and READY to take care of not only YOUR family but serving the church, praying and making your home an open place for people that need it. And that includes excersize, good food and enough sleep”
It gave me a much needed attitude shift. Not a HAVE to but a I NEED to so my body is able and ready to serve. No tired from lack or sleep or weary from lack excersize.
I forget what a blessing having an able body is, until I talk to a friend that can’t even pick up her child due to chronic pain and back issues. And I remember what a blessing my temple is to not only me but to OTHERS!
Well, and for me it carries more weight knowing that the Lord desires for us to be healthy in body, and to make healthy choices. When it’s just Dr. Oz telling me, well…whatever. But when God says it – like you said – major attitude shift!
