By special request from the birthday boy….
tacos!
This is a very simple meal, that can be mostly prepared in advance.
Say it with me now, “Start by browning 2 pounds of ground beef or venison”. Very good class!
We seem to eat a lot of ground beef/venison. It really is an economic thing. Right now I have a freezer full of beef that I got for roughly 99 cents a pound. So, yeah ground beef rocks!
While the meat is browning, in a small bowl mix the following ingredients…
Pretty isn’t it????
Oh, would like to know what to use to make this pretty concoction? No!
Just kidding!
4 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. crused dried red pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. dried oregano (or maybe a smidge more :)
Once your meat is browned, add the seasoning mix, and 1 cup of water.
Voila! Taco meat!
You could stop there, and have some yummy tacos, but why? Let’s toss in about half a can of mild salsa, shall we?
As yes, that’s much better!
Now, this will sit nicely on the back of the stove on low, or in a crock pot until you are ready to serve it. When that time comes, warm some tortillas, add your favortie toppings and enjoy!
I was surprised to see that you don’t put cumin in your taco seasoning! Have you ever tried it? It really gives Mexican food that authentic “something.” Try it!
Oh, I have, but we prefer the flavor without.
