while I was outside untangling Christmas light (don’t ask) I was thinking about sacrifice and tithing and how right now, for many people tithing is a real sacrifice. It causes us to choose God over, eating out, or maybe buying new clothes, or maybe even paying a bill. Then I thought of these verses…
24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them. 25 David built an altar to the LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the LORD answered prayer in behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped.2 Samuel 24:24
David, a man after God’s own heart, knew that his sacrifice had to cost him something.
So, this is where my brain put together this thought. Right now, when financially things are not looking so great, God is giving us an awesome opportunity to truly sacrifice to Him. I guess it all depends on your point of view.
What a blessing!
Sorry for interrupting your day, but you know I would have forgotten it, if I hadn’t of written it down.
