Yesterday marked the completion of the physical portion of Sugar Belle’s accident. What an incredible year we have had! The Lord has been so generous to us, and we are so thankful for all His blessings!
After much yada yada with the hospital and the surgeon’s office regarding payment, we were cleared for surgery at 7:30 am. Of course we had to be at he hospital at 5;30….yawn…..
Shug was in excellent spirits. She was nervous, but very brave.
Sugar Belle and Mr. OverKill waiting at registration.
The hospital had recently changed computer systems, hospital wide! It was a tad crazy, and we ran a bit behind, but after all was settle, Sugar Belle was prepped and ready to go.
She brought her puppy Mr. Harry(that she got last time around), and the hospital gave her a new stuffed animal, a Buccaneer cheerleader.
The hospital was great about letting us stay with her right up until she had to go in the OR. (She did NOT like the paper cap:) She told me later that the OR was very chilly. I don’t think she liked that either.
The nurse told Sugar Belle that we would be able to be with her when she woke up. They tried, but she woke up a little too soon. She didn’t see us and became very distraught.
She had a hard time with the anesthesia this time. It made her shaky, and weepy. It was very sad, and hard for Shug and Mama.
But after abut 20 minutes, she was doing better. Yeah!
Let’s see….she went into surgery around 7:55, was in recovery at 8:45, and we were discharged by 11:45! CRAZY!
She kept insisting that she was “starving” and wanted pizza, so on the way home we stopped for pizza. Silly Mommy thought that we would be at the hospital most of the day, so I did not bring her cane or crutches. So, she just walked with assistance from Daddy! Whoa!
The Flip Flop Babe brought flowers for Shug and left them on our doorstep. Shug thought that was very special.
Now, she has taken up residence in Daddy’s chair, which is the most comfortable for her leg…
which is currently wrapped toes to thigh in an ace bandage. She isn’t too happy about the ace bandage, as she has to keep it on until tomorrow evening.
Sugar Belle asked her surgeon if she could keep her titanium nails. It was very interesting to see them…they were very different from what we had all imagined.
She seems to be doing well. Her pain has been minimal, and she is able to walk around with the aid of her crutches or cane. Right now, her goal is to feel up to going to church on Sunday.
I think that’s an awesome goal!
