Have you ever felt like this is your life…
Like you can’t stop, or things will come crashing down? I know I have, well let’s make that, I do. I am certainly guilty of even creating this “spinning plate” scenario in my own life, by taking on too much.
For those of you who are saying, “What the heck is a spinning plate scenario?” let me explain. You have responsibilities as a wife and mother, each one of those responsibilities is like a spinning plate. Then you add new things the the mix….homeschooling (add a spinning plate, or 4 as the case may be), you decide to start teaching Sunday school (add a spinning plate), you take up jogging (add a spinning plate). See, you have to go back and keep all the plates spinning. You have to keep up with each of those responsibilities, they vie for your time. They require attention, or something disastrous will happen, plates will start falling and breaking.
I will be honest and say, raising and homeschooling four kids definitely keeps me on my toes. This week, I was really feeling good about things around the house. The kids have been picking up behind themselves (for the most part) and I did some major reorganizing projects last week that are also helping things to run more smoothly and efficiently. However, this morning I walked into the boys room to find this…
This is Little Man’s dresser, and for some reason, most of his clothes are on top of his dresser, instead of inside it….sigh….
My first response was, REALLY!?!?! My second response was, why is it when I get one area of the house running smoothly, another area falls to pieces? Time to spin that plate….
I wanted to get frustrated and angry, but you know what, that’s really not going to help me any. I was reminded (I’m sure by the Holy Spirit, because that is certainly not where my mind was going) of Proverbs 14:4,
Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.
If I didn’t have four kiddos running around, who unknowingly attempt to make my plates all come crashing down, my house would be very clean, but also very empty….
And just think, maybe they are going to be part of a large harvest….
Gotta run, I think Mr. OverKill has another plate for me to spin.
