Do you remember that episode of Seinfeld? The one where George runs around screaming “serenity now!” Yeah, I wish that worked, because I could really use some serenity right about now.
Especially since I just wrote this entire post and it got erased, because I am using my kiddos laptop, that I am not used to using!!!! (serenity now!!!!)
As I was saying, before this all got erased…
Last week my hard drive on my new computer crashed (serenity now!) Thankfully, it is under warranty. As I tried to dump all my data from the dead hard drive, I discovered that my external hard drive has died (serenity now!) So, I called the extended warranty company for the external hard drive, the company that assured me that these things never break, but if it does, we’ll get all your data off. Yeah, they lied (serenity now!)
Now I have 3 days to figure out how to get all my data from dead hard drive to….maybe the kiddos computer as a temporary thing…(serenity now!) Which will be a project because my computer (the one with the dead hard drive) now overheats and will only run for about 10-15 minutes before it shuts down (serenity now!).
So, if you have any suggestions regarding the external hard drive, I would love to hear them. It powers up and I can hear it spinning, but Windows doesn’t recognize it.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, there probably won’t be any more posts until I can get all these computer issues sorted out.
Serenity now!
probably not what you want to hear:
1. Remember the crazy dude confessed that saying Serenity Now! drove him over the edge – gotta let it out. ;)
2. re: computer stuff – get a Mac (with Apple Care) and a Time Capsule. More expensive at the onset, but so worth it in the long run. Trust me! I have been through so many PC issues (even under warranty) that we gave up trying to live with them. Two years ago I bought my first MacBook Pro. I had a minor display problem (a bad internal connector) and they fixed it for free. They noticed while I had it in the shop that my battery wasn’t lasting as long as it should be and that my power cord was a tiny bit frayed. They replaced both for free as well. Also, my hard drive crashed just over a week ago. Replaced for free! While it was a hassle with my time a bit, I have a Time Capsule back up so moving things back to the new hard drive was as painless as plugging in the ethernet cable and clicking a button; two hours later it was just as it was before hand. With another turn of bad luck my optical drive went out on Friday – yes, problem #3 on the same MBP – when I called Apple Care to discuss this they were rather upset that one more thing had failed with the same MBP (highly irregular) so they are just sending me out a brand new machine. Seriously. I love Apple. I’m not a lost fan-girl, but I am totally sold on the customer service and polite treatment I receive from English speaking individuals when I have an issue. Even called tech support to get a few lessons on a few things when I first got my MBP because I didn’t know some of the simplest things (where files were located, different terminology).
Anyway, I do hope you get it fixed and all will be well soon.
(Serenity NOW!)
