What does it mean to use time wisely? Does it mean that we are good at scheduling? Does it mean that we never spend a moment frivolously?
Well, for the purpose of my study, I am going to say that “using my time wisely” could also be synonymous with “living my life wisely.” Really, when we are talking about the use of our time, we are talking about our actions, and how we live our lives, are we not? Sometimes I think we fail to realize that how we use our time is really how were are using our life. How are we spending each breath that God allows us, each heartbeat. It’s more than just a schedule, it’s life, it’s service to the King!
Proverbs makes it clear that we need to know where the right path is, and then we need to follow it.
Those who follow the right path fear the Lord;
those who take the wrong path despise him Proverbs 14:2 NLTThe prudent understand where they are going,
but fools deceive themselves. Proverbs 14:8 NLT
What I am sensing in my life right now, is that the Lord is pruning things out of my life that are not of the greatest benefit for the kingdom work. Are they bad things? No, not really, but they aren’t necessarily the best things either.
I had originally thought I would share some specifics of things that are being pruned out of my life. But, I realized that isn’t going to be helpful to you. You see, as we mature spiritually, the Lord shows us areas of our life that need to be different, set apart, sanctified. My journey isn’t your journey, and I wouldn’t want my convictions to become your stumbling block.
So, my challenge to you today is to ask the Lord if there is something you are giving your precious moments of life to, that aren’t worth the cost. Then, read Psalm 139 and know how blessed and loved we are, by a mighty awesome God, who will….
23Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
