Yes, I know it’s been a bit quiet. But, you know….life, priorities, fun, etc.
So, a quick recap.
Monday – We wrapped up collection week for Operation Christmas Child. It was a long day at the church collecting all the last minute boxes and loading the trailer.
Tuesday – As the Collection Center Coordinator, I was responsible for finishing all the paperwork for OCC and meeting the truck that was picking up our trailer. That took the majority of my morning. Then, I actually had the afternoon “off.” My mother-in-law took the kiddos for the afternoon, so I ran errands, and finally got to the chiropractor. After which, I sat in a quiet empty house and just enjoyed the stillness. That night, Mr. OverKill and I went out for date night: Olive Garden followed by Books a Million, and Lowe’s where I finally got my awesome new toaster oven! (Thank you again, Mr. OverKill)
Wednesday – Hmmm…what did I do Wednesday???? Oh yeah! I “slept” in, translation, I lazed around in bed for an extra hour. We went to the library and I did a homeschool evaluation. Then I started making my gluten-free Thanksgiving. See, for Thanksgiving we typically go to my in-law’s, in-law’s, family’s house (figure that one out). And it’s a potluck deal, so I figured the safest thing to do was to cook my own food. The plan was for the girls and I to cook the sides, and Mr. OverKill was going to come home early and make a garbage can turkey with the boys. Sadly, life happened. Mr. OverKill ended up needing to work late, and I ended up roasting the turkey in the oven. It was still super yummy. After dinner Mr. Ok’s parents picked up the kiddos and had them for a sleep-over. Oh, and I attempted yet another GF cinnamon roll recipe.
Thursday – Bright and early Mr. OverKill and I dragged ourselves out of bed and down to the state park to run in the Turkey Trot 5k. I have only been running for about 2 and a half weeks, but one of my triathlon, marathon running friends assured me I would be ready. So, I signed up for it and really started focusing on distance. I finally hit 5.2k on Sunday and was super excited. I want to say it took me 47-50 minutes. I know…slow poke. But, seriously, I am SO THANKFUL that I am healthy enough to run that distance at any pace. I would venture to say that I haven’t been this healthy in 10 years. It’s a great feeling! So, we both ran the 5k, my goal was not to come in dead last :) At the finish line, it was kind of a blur, because I had this cute little 5 year old that was sprinting trying to beat me (I know my competition is a 5 year old, go ahead laugh, I don’t mind :) Anywho, I was trying to make sure that I didn’t trip over her, so I am not totally sure of my time. Mr. Ok and I think it was 42 and change, but we should be able to find out exactly what it was in a few days. So, I really shaved quite a bit of time off my run. I really enjoyed it too. I wasn’t too sure at first, with all the people (I’m not a fan of crowds) but the crowd thinned out and I really had a great time.
Yes, I wore that shirt on purpose, because I am living proof that God is still working today!
At this point I am not planning to run any further than a 5k. My reasons? They are many, but I think the main reason being that right now, I don’t have time to train for a half marathon. I’m doing well to run 3 days a week for 45 minutes. So, my next goal is to keep training for the next 5k which will be in January or February (I should probably find out :) and to decrease my time. After the 5k, Mr, Ok and I got a Starbucks and headed to the house, where I cooked dessert (apple dumplins) for the pot luck and then we headed out for some time with the fam. It really was a great day! Oh, and the GF cinnamon rolls were AWESOSME!
On the agenda for today? NO BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING! Sorry.
Today- Publix, taking down the last of the OCC signs at church, getting the housework caught up, and if the kiddos cooperate, we will start decorating for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, did you know that advent begins THIS Sunday???? This year, for advent, we will be reading Bartholomew’s Passage.
What special traditions does your family participate in for advent?
