As I was laying here this morning asking the Lord to fill me with his love, patience and compassion as I care for Sugar Belle, I realized I was praying for the fruits of the Spirit, patience, kindness, joy, gentleness….and then it occurred to me. That verse says the fruit of the Spirit is….not the fruit of Margaret. You see, I had been praying that the Lord would use me as a vessel to show compassion, patience and love to Sugar Belle, as I was caring for her 24 hours a day…with literally no time for myself, except to take a quick shower. I knew that in and of myself, I can not be all that she needs. If I rely on myself, I would be selfish, cruel and jealous. But by asking the Lord to work through me and fill me with HIS Spirit, I am able to serve and care for my daughter with His strength.
What a great reminder to die daily to the flesh and to choose to allow the Spirit to live through me!
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5: 22-25
