This summer our local library sponsored a summer reading program. It was a pretty sweet deal. For every ten books the kiddos read, they got to pick a prize from the treasure chest, and they got a free Happy Meal. This past Saturday, they had the end of summer Pirate costume party. The littles spent some time Saturday morning getting their costumes together (with some help from The Frazzled Mama). I thought they came out really well!
The library put on a nice party for the kids too. They had stations set up when we first entered the children’s section. One station was for making a name badge and receiving a eye patch, and the other was a tattoo station. When everyone was labeled and tattooed, the children’s librarian read a couple of books to the kids, and then they had snacks.
They also had goodie bags and “pirate bling” for each child.
After the snack, they also had a craft, which of course, my kiddos loved!
Bubba even joined in for that! What ten-year old boy doesn’t take the opportunity to turn a paint stirrer into a sword?
The children’s librarian really did a great job putting this event together. There were even special prizes for the kids who read the most books.
What a great program to encourage reading over the summer, a total of over 3,000 books were read by the participants. Nice job!!!!
