I mentioned in an earlier post about making crystal snowflakes. So, I thought I would share:)
The kiddos have several sets of grandparents, some biological and others surrogate. One, of their surrogate grandmothers, a.k.a Nana gave them a kit she had put together for making real crystal snowflakes. She found the directions at one of my favorite web sites, www.enchantedlearning.com. Now, I will be brutally honest, I didn’t want to do it! I was thinking it was going to be really time consuming, and at our house right now, time is at a premium. But, I finally did the experiment with the kiddos the other day. We made it kind of big and we ended up having to let it hang out in our tea pitcher. But I would say the finished product was really cool….
The kiddos were absolutely amazed when we pulled it out of the water! They are really sturdy too, which I wasn’t expecting since we used pipe cleaners and dental floss to create the “frame” for the crystal. Seriously though, this is an EASY Christmas activity that gets lots of wows from the kids. I ended up going out and buying more Borax so that they could each make their own. Maybe a bit smaller this time :)
