People often ask me how I got started decorating cakes, what classes I’ve taken, etc. etc. Well, I haven’t taken any formal classes, and I started making cakes because it was cheaper to make one than to buy one! How’s that for honesty?
While I was looking through old photos last week, I came across these pictures of the first few cakes I made.
Now, I do have to say that when I was 16 I took a cake decorating class with my mom. I remember…..next to nothing about it. My real “training” came from Mr. OverKill’s best-friend’s mother, who my kiddos now call, Nana.
So, here is my first cake that I made as an adult, and which sparked my interest in cake decorating….
This is the cake I made for Mr. OverKill to celebrate our one year anniversary of being in business. By the way, next month will mark 11 years!
Next, I made a cake for Bubba’s first birthday party. Our theme was pumpkins, and I made a giant pumpkin (which no one seems to have gotten a picture of) and several small pumpkins for the kiddos to eat. This was one of the smaller pumpkins.
This last cake was the one I made for Bubba on his actual first birthday. Hey, what can I say, he was the first!
So, see, ya gotta start somewhere, and build up some practice so that you can make precious cakes like this….
The toes kill me, every time! Just ask Mr. OverKill.
not only are they beautiful they taste great too!! Keep up the great work.
