I know that many of you are bustling around preparing for your Thanksgiving Day Feast. I am not. Yee-Haw! Mr. OverKill is handling the turkey this year (that’s another post in itself). So, I will be getting busy in a few minutes making some fresh herb-braided bread (or Rapunzel Bread as it’s know in Frazzled Mama Land). Then, I plan to watch a good part of the parade with my kiddos and generally lounge around. At some point I am sure I will get up and tidy the house before our guests come, but at the moment it is actually relatively clean. Aaahhhh, a nice relaxing holiday. But before all that lounging commences, I have been thinking about the things that I am thankful for, and would like to share my thoughts with you. Don’t like it? Too bad, it’s my blog!
First and foremost I am Thankful to God for His mercy, grace, and love extended to me. I am even more thankful that He opened my eyes to see my need of a Savior. I am thankful for all the lessons He has been teaching me this year, it’s been a challenging one. Of course, those are the ones during which we learn the most!
I am thankful for my husband. He is my perfect match and I would be lost without his love and support. I truly see the blessing in God’s design for marriage. Mr. OverKill has challenged me to grow as a wife, mother, teacher, and friend. He is also my best friend and trusted advisor. He is truly God’s gift to me.
I am thankful for my children, that they are healthy and happy, and somewhat intelligent. :) I am thankful that they love each other and are learning to serve one another in love. I am thankful that they are curious and funny.
I am thankful for my family. Especially for our parents. They are such a blessing to us and the children. They are all striving to have special relationships with their grandchildren, and are encouraging them to walk with the Lord. They are a huge blessing especially in their willingness to watch our children for date nights and weekends away.
I am thankful for the many wonderful friends the Lord has brought into my life this year. New friendships are always fun and exciting. I am even more thankful for the tried and true friends who love you when things get ugly and don’t choose to walk away.
I am thankful for God’s provision for my family this year during these tough economic times. We have seen many small businesses close down this year. Graciously, God has seen fit to allow our business to continue to support our family. The Lord is taking care of us as He always has and always will!
I am thankful that God is on His throne and no matter what happens He is looking to the ways of His children.
Deuteronomy 31:8
And The Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.
After the birth of Sugar Belle, I had a very irrational fear about the rapture and what would happen to my children, and what would happen to me. It was all very hormonal and scary. I kept having this image of standing in front of God and literally melting because I am so full of sin, and He is so holy. I prayed and prayed about this image in my head, it was terrifying. One day the Lord gave me that verse from Deuteronomy and a new image of me standing before God, still filled with fear, but Jesus is standing by my side, holding my hand. What peace filled my soul! “He will never leave” means even when I stand before God! How awesome is that! And so, I am thankful that He will never leave me.
I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to be thankful and to truly think about who you are thankful to.
