We had a great time camping this weekend with our church, even though it seemed like things kept going wrong at first. I had planned to go out to the campsite the day before the scheduled church trip. My dear friend invited me to go out there early with her, and I thought it would be fun. We both planned to get out there around 1:00ish. Well, she got out there at 3:00, I didn’t get out there until 5:00! Life happens, and I refuse to put important things on hold, even when we are trying to go have fun. We had a few behavior issues before we left which contributed to our tardiness. So, when we finally got to the campsite, Mr. Overkill was already with us (YEAH!) so he parked the camper and got it all set up (YEAH!).
The next day we had a homeschool meeting at the State Park where we camped (how convenient). So, we set out from the campsite on our bikes, and I got about 30 feet from the campsite and the chain guard on my new bike, started having technical difficulties. I think it somehow got bent a little when I loaded it in the camper. So, I ended up walking my bike over to the meeting place. I could have sat down and cried. But, the lesson went great and the kiddos had a wonderful time. But things would still not go my way, as we had an issue at the meeting, that now I get to follow up on. I confess I was really ticked and my good friend that I had gone camping with, confiscated my cell phone. Mind you, I wouldn’t have actually made the phone call I was wanting to, but she wasn’t taking any chances. So, when I was finally able to leave the meeting, I took the kiddos to the campsite, fed them lunch and we all laid down and took a nap. Best thing I could have done!
But back at the meeting catastrophe, I very wise person gave me this verse….
2 Timothy 2 :23-26
23Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
Ouch! I have been rolling this verse around in my head ever since. So, something good was starting, I was growing and learning more about living my life.
Back to camping (there’s those random thoughts we talked about the other day!) We really did have a great weekend, which included Bubba’s camping birthday.
Easiest birthday cake ever!
Not only did I learn more about how to live my life, it seems we all had a very learning-oriented weekend.
Bubba learned to ride his bike with “no hands”.
Mr. OK and I learned that this is what Little Man looks like when he is deliriously happy and deliriously tired at the same time…
Tootle Bug learned to really ride a two-wheeler, which included not freaking out, starting on her own, not freaking out, turning, not freaking out, and stopping without falling over…
We also learned that children out in 50 degree weather isn’t a pretty thing….
But, we also learned that they perk right back up when you put them inside the camper, inside zero degree sleeping bags, with a movie on.
Great weekend!
Awww- looks like you guys had a great time. Those are wonderful pictures. Happy 9th (wow!) to Bubba. I hope you got your bike fixed.
We had a similar camping trip at the Hammock once. We woke up to such cold that the kids just cried until we loaded them into the van. We drove around with the heater on and then went to the restaurant to enjoy a hot breakfast and the fireplace. LOL Good memories. :)
J just learned how to ride his bike for real recently too.
They are all getting so big!
Wow…You mentioned me in your blog as your “dear friend”…well after this weekend if you still call me that…lwell, it will be a blessing to me!!! Love the pictures!!! Thanks for being there…I do have to admitt I was looking forward to some just you and me time…but my hubby didn’t go to work on Friday so I felt very sad and happy all at the same time! See ya Wednesday!
