A few weeks (or maybe months) ago I wrote about the Proverbs 31 Woman. I was really hit by verse 25. Check it out in a few different translations:
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future.
King James Bible
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
American King James Version
Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
American Standard Version
Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come.
Douay-Rheims Bible
Strength and beauty are her clothing, and she shall laugh in the latter day.
Darby Bible Translation
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laugheth at the coming day.
English Revised Version
Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she laugheth at the time to come.
Webster’s Bible Translation
Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
World English Bible
Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.
Young’s Literal Translation
Strength and honour are her clothing, And she rejoiceth at a latter day.
Okay, number one, strength and dignity are her clothing. If you haven’t read my Strength and Dignity post, please do so!
Okay, ya back? So, I mentioned in that post that I wondered how it was that she could smile at the future. Some translations (as you saw) even go so far as to say that she laughs at the future. So, I prayed and asked God to show me how it was that she could laugh at the future. Because I really want to laugh at the future!
Well, this past week He did just that. (Sorry Pastor T, this was the verse I was looking up on my phone during church.)
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the LORD forever,
For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.Isaiah 26:3-4
Do you see it? He keeps us in perfect peace – when our minds are stayed on Him because we trust Him. Then Isaiah says, Trust in the Lord – our everlasting strength – forever.
Then, He gave me this….
Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols.Psalm 40:4
Got it? Good!
Night!
Just kidding. Did you get it though? The joys of those who trust in the Lord.
The Proverbs 31 Woman could laugh at the future because she TOTALLY trusted God.
So, that is the key. In order to laugh at the future, I must totally trust God.
Well, sure, that should be easy enough.
Where’s that well???
(If you don’t get that, you didn’t read my Strength and Dignity post:)
