We are going on a field trip today, so no lengthy post. But I thought I would mention what we are doing. The Orlando Philharmonic puts on a youth concert every year. Tickets are $5.00 and the kiddos get an hour of beautiful music, geared towards them. They usually also invite the Orlando Ballet to do one song with them, and someone from the Opera. The kids really enjoy it and it gives them an initial taste of the arts. Here’s a small exerpt from the flyer…
Are you planning to celebrate an event? Then you will need decorations, party hats, balloons, plenty of good food and drink – and don’t forget the MUSIC! Music is important for many celebrations, from family birthday dinners to the international Olympic games. The
OrlandoPhilharmonic invites you to Celebrate With Music at the 2008 Young People’s Concerts. Conductor Andrew Lane will lead the orchestra as we explore music that celebrates events in many different places, times and cultures. Rhythm will be an important element as students listen for music that moves in twos (duple) and threes (triple meter).
They also give us a teacher’s guide with lessons that apply to what the kids will be hearing, and a CD with all the songs that will be played, so the children can be familiar with them before we arrive. Check with your area Orchestra to see if they offer a similar program.
After the concert, we are planning to go to lunch at Chick-fil-a (my fav) and Lego Land. It should be a great day!
