The more I think about this whole Sport’s Illustrated thing, the more disturbing it is to me. Trust me, I am not naive enough to think that because one little Frazzled Mama is upset about their magazine display, they are going to change! I realize that as long as it is legal, they will be peddling their magazines to anyone who will buy them.
I guess what is even more upsetting to me, is the fact that, no one else really seems to mind! By this I mean, this morning I Googled “Sports Illustrated targeting children.” There was only one result that was relevant! Apparently not many people have a problem with these display racks that are only 2 feet tall.
I really have a hard time believing that this type of marketing is not intentional. Opps, a multi-million dollar company messed up an order for display racks, Oh well, let’s use them any ways. Is it really necessary to throw this kind of illicit material at our preschoolers, when they should be watching Barney and Sesame Street? Because the reality of it is, that display was at my four-year olds eye level, not a teenager’s eye-level, tween’s eye level, not a 30 year old man’s eye level.
I guess it comes back to the fact that our children are being bombarded with sexuality way too much, way too soon. From clothes, to music, to magazine racks…we are making our children grown up too fast!
We need to take a stand for our children!
We seriously need to pray for our kids and all that they are going to face as a result of the culture around them!
Maybe a helmet isn’t such a bad idea….with a blackout visor :)
But seriously, we need to be equipping our children to see truth and apply it to their lives. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to get any easier!
Hi- New reader here! :) No I would feel the same way about the SI issue. I have even said to myself. “Self ….. Why are those muscle magazines and those half naked people on the bottom shelf. Kids don’t read those.” Although I have never gone to the manager toting all kids with me but maybe I should. I normally just avoid the aisle but at our store they are down the baby aisle. Great place right?
Protect those little eyes! The enemy is seeking whom he may devour.
