Many of you know that I have an autoimmune desease, which frequently gives me aches and pains. So, when we needed to rip out the bathroom and start from scratch, we decided we wanted to put in a shower spa, thinking that it might help my aches and pains. The first thing we considered was this type, which requires no additional plumbing.
Now, the draw back with this one is that the water pressure typically isn’t that great. So, we decided against that pretty quickly.
This is a pretty standard, simple shower spa. This is actually the model we were considering…
Now, this one costs about $645.00, depending on which finish you choose. Not too bad, right? Right? That’s only for the hardware, you know, the plumbing you can see, you still have to purchase the “rough-ins” which are about another $200.00, bringing the total (before lovely taxes) to $845.00. But wait, there’s more! Then, you have to have the plumber install all of this.
Well, again, if you know me well, you know that I am going to find a way to do it cheaper. I was chatting with ym sister one day and she asked about the athroom and I was complaining about the price of things. Then, she told me that friend of hers just plumbed in extra shower heads…hmmmmm So, I made a trip up to Lowe’s and picked up 4 massaging shower heads, and a rainmaker for the main shower head.
I got 2 of these, and 2 of these….
They are both Moen products, we didn’t end up using the top model, but we did use these wonderful inventions! This is the Moen Inspire, it has 7 different settings.
Where was I, oh yes, I brought home all these showerheads, and Hubby thought I had lost my mind. I explained to him what I was thinking and he said “No way, can’t do it.” Bummer!! But you know what? MY hubby wanted so much to give me a spa shower, that he figured it out. By the way, our plumber thought we were crazy too. So this is what we ended up with…
Isn’t it beautiful? Great water pressure! We also have another shower head on the other wall. Hubby ended up having the plumber plumb in 2 valves and 3 stubs for the shower heads, placed where they hit your back and neck, just right. They also adjust up, down, left and right. Our cost? Tee-hee $260, inlcuding the rough-ins. So, $845, or $260? Keep in mind that you will still need to have both systems plumbed, by you if you are handy or by a plumber. Still…. I think I am going to go take a shower.
