I have basil coming out my ears! Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But considering all my excess, I decided to seek out some gifts ideas using basil. I came across the idea of basil infused olive oil. Here’s what I did…
I started with clean, dry basil leaves…fresh from the garden.
Next, I gently bruised the basil. (I know gently and bruised, they don’t go together!)
Basically you just roll over the basil with a rolling pin. This helps the flavor come out.
Next, I washed my pretty little oil canisters in hot soapy water, and then dried them thoroughly.
Then, I rolled the basil leaves up and put them in the jars.
Then, I pour Extra Virgin Olive Oil over the basil leaves, until the jar is full. So cool! The longer it sits, the more intense the basil flavor will be.
Add a pretty bow, and there you have it! A unique, homemade, inexpensive gift.
Oh, the inexpensive part??? Well, the Olive Oil I have been stocking up on in BOGO sales :) I found the jars for under $2.00 each.
Sorry if I have given you this gift and now you are ready all about how much it costs…tacky and yet hopefully helpful to someone ;)
This is beautiful! I love it! Can’t wait to make some… I could pobably use just about any herb from the garden, right? Have you tried any of your other herbs? :-)
You know, I haven’t tried that, but I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work.
