A friend of mine sent me an email a couple of days ago, and I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to share it with you all.
I have begun a study of the names of Jesus and just wanted to share one today.
Advocate, defined as some body giving support, helper, legal representative.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;.
1 John 2:1
19 Even now my witness is in heaven;
my advocate is on high.
Job 16:19 (NIV)
How comforting to know I have someone on my side that understands me fully and completely, because he made me, interceding for me with God the Father.
An anology for me is,
When I first received my computer I was afraid of it, I was afraid I would hit a wrong button and erase everything or damage it beyond repair.
Then one day David said to me “Mom there is nothing you can do to this computer that I cannot fix. What Freedom to explore to know I had support a helper if I messed up.
To apply that to my life, What freedom to know I have a Savior an advocate a helper that no matter how I mess up there is nothing he can’t fix, He made me, he knows my flaws and my weaknesses as well as my strengths.
Most important he knows what I need and is a great supplier of what I need day by day if I only ask. He doesn’t push himself on us, he wants us to want his help and patiently waits for us to ask him.
He is not an advocate unless we are one of his children. To be one of his children we must accept his free gift of salvation.
Know that Jesus was God and came to Earth to show us a man could live a perfect life here and be our redeemer. He freely gave his life in our place to pay for our sin so we could stand clean before a Holy and Just God and live with him one day in eternity but more than that to live today in peace and freedom.
John 3:16 – 18 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.[
He also says in Romans 3:23
. . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
So we have all messed up and need an advocate
Romans 6:23 says
The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So the results of or sin or messing up is death or separation from God forever, turmoil, frustration, no peace.
Ephesians 2:8 & 9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Eph 2:8-10 (NIV)
So I am grateful for a walk with God and to know him as my Lord and Savior and live in His peace knowing I have Jesus as my advocate with a perfect Father.
The world may be in turmoil but I have peace, What better way to live.
I pray you know him too and his peace that passes all understanding.
