A few weeks ago a friend of mine was over visiting and she commented on one of organizational tools. I LOVE organization, however, I am organizationally challenged. So, being organized requires a huge amount of thought and trial and error for me. I have found one tool for organizing that I have been able to use very successfully in a few different applications. It all started with my daughters clothes. For some reason they would find it necessary to pull out every item of clothing that they owned in order to put together the perfect outfit. I guess it is hard to create and ensemble that works for home schooling, digging, jumping on the trampoline, riding bikes, and looking like princesses. So, I saw this idea somewhere and thought, OK we’ll give this a try, and it has been fantastic!
So, I put one outfit in each section. Then, they get to pick which one they want to wear. So, I have some control over what they look like, but they still have some freedom of choice. So, I bought more organizers, for shoes. Let me say what a disaster!!! They are not conducive for children. So I took down the shoe racks, and then one day I thought, I could use that in the school room.
This has been great too! The kids can reach the ones on the bottom, and I can store more items at the top, for later use.
Then, when I cleaned out the utility room for our new washer, I found one more shoe rack and thought, hmmm how could I used it in here, and voila….
Again, lower compartments can store items that I want the kids to reach like dusters, and the upper compartments are for grown-up stuff.
I was at a friend’s house earlier this week and her daughter had a shoe organizer on her bedroom door, and was using it to store toys and things. Another great use!
Also, if you are at all into garage sale shopping or thrift store shopping, you can find these organizational gems for a bargain.

My mom uses one of those compartment type organizers (I think like the one you have homeschooling stuff in?) on the back of her basement door. I think she might keep ziplock baggies, etc in them. Not sure what all she uses it for but that is a great idea.
I’ve thought about doing the hanging one w/ my son’s clothes for each day of the week. But do to space limitations I think I’ll have to wait.
I did get your emails, and thank you for linking up and sharing your tips. I “liked” your FB page too ;)
