I have been thinking lately about the verses in the Bible that speak about eagle’s wings. One that we are all familiar with is Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
So, I looked up some more references to eagles, and I found some pretty interesting things. First, I didn’t realize that an eagle was classified as an unclean food. Not that I would want to eat eagle, but still interesting.
I also had never really thought about this verse, Exodus 19:4-5
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine
I never really thought about what that the part really means when it says “I bare you on eagle’s wings”. Apparently, eagles are known to carry their young out of their nests on their wings and teach them to fly, catching them when necessary on their outspread wings.
Wow, what a fabulous metaphor! God takes us out of our comfort zone, and teaches us to fly, but He is always there to catch us when needed. What a comfort and a blessing!
